Earth Day

Many people are starting to think that maybe the store products are actually taking away from the the meaning of "going green". Many business's are coming out with new and improved ways of recycling. For this year’s celebration, Bahama Umbrella is advertising a specially designed umbrella, with a drain so that water “can be stored, reused and recycled"(para 1 Kaufman). But the controversy is that many people think these products are taking Earth Days original purpose away. This year, in an updated version of a teach-in, Greenpeace will team up with technology giants like Cisco and Google to hold a Web seminar focused on how the use of new technologies like videoconferencing and “cloud” computing can reduce the nation’s carbon footprint (para 8 Kaufman). More businesses are finding more ways to reduce their pollution to the environment.“Every Earth Day is a reflection of where we are as a culture,” he said. “If it has become commoditized, about green consumerism instead of systemic change, then it is a reflection of our society" (para 19 Kaufman).

Can you handle your stress?

Everyone has some amount of stress in life. But the question is are you able to handle it?

Stress is everywhere from making deadlines to meeting someones demands. there is no way to avoid it other than to cope with it in a positive way. You will first need to find out what causes your daily stress.

Many things can trigger stress such as family, children, relationships or deaths. Although stress isn't always bad. In general, stress is related to both external and internal factors (conrad, para4).There are many positive ways of stress like, giving a presentation, stress will keep you on your toes. It will give you the advantage to get things done.

Causes of Stress
Most of the life causes include : (conrad para3)
- Death of Spouse, family or friend
- Health: injury, illness and pregnancy
- Crime: Sexual molestation, mugging, burglary and pick-pocketing
- Self-abuse: drug abuse, alcoholism and self-harm
- Family change: separation, divore, new baby and marriage
- Sexual problems: getting partner, with partner
- Argument: with spouse, family, friends, co-workers or boss
- Physical Changes: lack of sleep and new work hours
- New Location: vacation or moving house
- Money: lack of it, owing it, investing it
- Enviroment Change: in school, job, house or town jail
- Responsibility Increase: new dependent or new job

Many things can influence on how you cope with your stress. One rather terrifying thing you may discover yourself experiencing is a "stress related panic attack"(conrad, para2).If your friends are supporitive then you will have an easier way of forgetting about what is putting you down. If it weren't for the loving and support of friends then you would become lonely and tend to think about your trigger of stress more often. You need to have a strong mind set that you will be able to conquer your stress. Do things that you enjoy.

If you let stress become a big obstacle in your life then it will start to engage a different outlook of how you view things. You should accept that your life has changed and try to make the most of it.

Stress mainly effects your emotions. When having a load of stress on you, your immune system tends to become weak. Lack of appetite and stomach ache are both high effects of stress.

A common stressor is your average headache. Other common stress triggers are stiff neck, back pain, sweaty palms, fast heartbeat and fast breathing.

If you're loaded with stress all the time, then you may see higher rish symptoms such as having high blood pressure, blood clots and that may even lead to a heart attack. Most of the time stress will cause your muscles to become sore such as your neck, shoulders and low back. Most people will agree that when stress is a factor in one's life, so is acne.

But most out of everthing it will effect your emotions. Most of the time you will feel cranky, frustrated, or easily irritated. Most of the time you tend to snap at the little things. Worry too much about everything and always feel like youre missing out on activities because of your actions.

There are so many ways that you can choose to relieve your stress. Its always good to let your stress out of your system. Many people take the route of exercising. It’s a great way to relieve all of the stress you have been building up. Writing is a great way to put everything down on paper that you have been stressing over and show what you have been striving through. Never let your feelings be closed in. Its always healthy to let your emotions out. Cry, let everything out to your parents or friends. Another great stress reliever is doing some community work. Usually when you’re stressed your body tends to tense up and your muscles become sore. Some ways to relax your body are taking a hot salt bath, yoga, or a message. The main thing is you need to know what your stress level is and what are some ways that you can handle it. Eat healthy, exercise, and enjoy life.

Is Stress the new trend?

Five Causes of Stress

1.) Finances- Buying a home and car can be very stressful. Most college students find stress when they are having to deal with buying education.

2.) Work- Many worry about getting and keeping the job. The struggle to meet our boss's needs. Homework for students can always bring loads of stress.

3.) Family- Arguments with family members. Divorce, who gets the children.

4.) Relationships- friendship, dating, divorce, or seperation.

5.) Death- death of a beloved one, or close friend.

Creavity is a Virtue

The short video clip that was shown was very thought through and presented well by the speaker. I valued the idea when he established the fact that children have very unique, creative and developed minds. To me, I believe this is true in every way. I would also like to believe that the performing arts program puts people at ease and lets them take creativity to their own way. The speaker was right when he directed about how the teaching of dance and other arts should be raised to the top of the education scale. Many young teens have talent that many don't know about, or even they themselves don't know. By letting performing arts be equivalent to mathematics or science, kids well be able to experience new things. The kids or teens may even find something in themselves they didn't know was there. Being creative allows everyone to think outside the box in many ways. I wish dance was an option offered at school when I was young, or have my parents enrolled me into a dance studio, something other than your daily school work. Art gives you an opportunity to think freely, it allows you to step back and enjoy the beauty of life and everything in it. From dance to painting, these arts let you find the inner you that has been hiding, and let others know the something more about you..

Daisy, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Perfume

I'm kind of a big perfume lover. I spray perfume on myself everytime i leave the house. But like most girls, I can't resist browsing at the ever-interesting perfume bottles and sniff all the new scents. There are so many scents that I like, but because of this, I can't possibly buy all the scents I 'like'. Out of all the scents, there's one scent that has grown on me and I have fond memories of, the Abercrombie. And I've been meaning to buy a bottle for awhile, but I've been slightly hesistant because I wasn't sure if the smell was too strong for me to wear for too long of a time so I never got around to buying it.

I was excited when I saw the new ads of Daisy, the Marc by Marc Jacobs scent, in Macy's. It's got that sweet, everlasting smell to it. The first time I smelt it, it smelled like any other perfume out there in the market. But at the encouragement of the Marc salesgirls (who told me not to buy the Marc Jacobs perfume but try Daisy instead,) I sprayed both scents onto perfume paper and brought them home to smell for a day.

After smelling both scents at least once an hour, I've decided that on the surface, Daisy smelt only like a light, fruity, flowery scent. But later on, the scent smelt musky and most importantly, of Gardenia, the signature scent of the Marc Jacobs perfume. (Yes, I know I think too much before buying things.) According to the Daisy site, Daisy's notes include strawberry, ruby red grapefruit, violet leaves, gardenia, violet leaves, jasmine petals, musk, vanilla and white woods. Not exactly what I smelt, but close enough. And surprisingly, since I've bought it two weeks ago, I've already used it 4 times. Perhaps the reason I haven't been using much perfume before was that I haven't found my right one yet?

What do you think of Daisy? Isn't the bottle simply adorable? Has anyone smelt it or bought it yet?

Homes for the Homeless

Watching the TED Prize video clip made me realize what kind of problems have aroused in the world, and what we need to do to overcome these issues.

I love the cities. The big skyscrapers, the lights, and the entertainment. But all of this blinds my sight when I see homeless adults, and even children.

Homeless, is a huge ongoing problem in the United States. Mostly people in Africa are homeless. But in the U.S. there are three million that have no homes. Most people become homeless because of their loss of job, mental illness, drugs or natural disasters.

Many people that are homeless are without jobs. We will ask managers of factories if they will provide jobs for them. Most of these jobs will only be offered at restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores in order for them to get back onto their own two feet again.

I would like for President Obama to send the army into taking these homeless people into shelters and caring for them. Making sure that nobody is sleeping on the streets that night, and they have enough beds for everyone. Doctors will be available to treat any wounds or diseases that may be on hand.

Knowing that there there isn't enough room in the shelters to house all of the homeless people. We will raise money to build enough to give everybody a home, a bed and food.

These three wishes aren't much to ask for when lives are being taken from us...

Back Home...

There are many things that I love about spring! The green grass, flip flops and shorts! :)) But the one thing that I love the most is baby lambs. Every spring we have new baby lambs roaming are pasture in Westby. This spring we have 25 new baby lambs :) usually the moms have about 2-3. We lost around eight during birth :(. Luckily to say though that we only one who needs to be bottled fed because her mother neglected her.

We have about 50 sheep! One donkey, one cat, and two dogs! Pretty much a zoo I must say!

We don't name all of our sheep, but half of them have there own name. Our black cat name is Frankenstein, shes a girl. hahah.. The donkeys name is Zeek. And our two dogs are Annie who is half pug and half beagle, and Mia who is full border collie.
I use to show sheep at the local fair in my 4-H. I really enjoyed showing. Althouh I'm done showing, I love to watch my sisters compete. Just like everything, I always have to have a favorite animal. My favorite sheeps name is Babe :) She use to be bottled fed when she was younger, and I was the one who took care of her. Shes done great in show, winning blue ribbon after blue ribbon. And shes the one who one showmanship of my class with me. She always comes up to me and lets me pet her :) Does anybody have an animal they adore?

Mood vs. Mind

AWESOME DAY: One day you had a…

nice breakfast
an awesome conversation with your mom on the phone
an “A” on your midterm
You felt fabulous that day!!

BAD DAY: Then another day, you…

got your favorite pants dirty
a guy in class was being annoying
you failed your quiz
you come home with a sink piled with dishes
You felt CRUDDY that day! Have you experienced this? Well I have…plenty of times!

My question is: should we allow what happens in our day to determine our attitude and actions?

Well, lately I’ve been allowing my day to affect me. I’ve been running around crazy with my busy schedules… I haven’t been allowing my mind to breath. Instead, I’ve been taking it all in the unhealthy way.

Lately, I’ve been allowing myself to consume in my work, my days, my future, & on myself! Ugh… I came to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore!! I couldn’t help but cry everyday. I’ve been going on facebook, allowing gossip to get the best of me, watching youtube videos, engaging in worthless talk. Don’t get me wrong. All of these things aren’t bad, but if this is ALL that you do EVERYDAY, it will become bad. Because these things are taking control of you rather than you taking control of them.

I literally felt like an addict not being able to go on facebook. So sad!! Allowing myself to all of these things has truly affected my speech, thoughts, and actions. For instance, I used to be very aware of gossip to the point where I have to stop the person from talking because I didn’t want to be part of it. Now, I’ve become numb to it. I’ve been allowing myself to be around people that won’t stop after telling them to. So I’ve come to a point where I stopped mentioning it and simply not talk about it but let that person vent all they want, as long as I’m not saying any of it. But this has caused me to slowly to take part of it! So my recommendation with friends that are gossipers, to confront the person gently and if they do not stop, then you MUST not hangout around that person too often. It’s honestly NOT healthy for you!!

So I decided to get away from facebook for a while and to start going to bed early in order to start my morning on a good foot. Being off a facebook has already allow me to be productive and finish my work quicker than before.

Friends In All the Right Places

It's about time that I let them know what I think about them. They give me strength to overcome the obstacles that block my path in life. I share my pain and pleasure with them. They are always there to make me see that there is a light at the end. They lift me up when I am down. I hope they know how grateful I am to have them, how so grateful that I can count on them. They're all there for me when I'm losing ground. I know that if I'm ever low, they will give great words to make everything alright.

Over the years in High school, you find out who your real friends are. College has been tough when you don't see your close friends from highschool everyday in the hallways. The close ones who can give you quick advice about your boyfriend or sharing the latest test answers before class..copying homework in the morning before the the bell rings. Knowing that someone will tell you the new gossip surrounding the school. Sharing rides to the upcoming basketball and football games. I miss random notes that we would hand eachother during class :p... how close we all were...i miss everything...

I love all of my friends very dearly. I wouldn't be the person who I am today without them. They shape and mold who I am. When you find the right friendships...life becomes a little more easy. The ones who give you the guarantee that they will always be there for you, makes you feel worthy. The ones, who follow you all through your life, will be there till the end. There are no better friends, than friends like these...

Making a Difference :)

The short video clip that was viewed in class, gave me direct situations in my life. It’s an incredible thing what these kids are capable of accomplishing. Whoever knew that there are children in this world that would be able to be trusted with a power tool. I think we are misunderstood what others are capable of doing in this day and age.
In 2006 I was able to take a trip to San Antonio with my church group. While attending seminars and also helping out families in need. I and my friends devoted most of our time raising money for the children that are starving around the world. I love to see the smiles of young kid’s faces when we have helped them. Donating our own clothes, shoes and books gave me great emotion as we shipped them overseas to Africa. We wrote letters to the children that had received our donation items. Mailed back to the U.S. from Africa was a dozen of thank you cards and pictures taken with glowing faces. Making a difference in somebody’s life encourages me to become a better person.
